I took with me two question concerning this brief to the crit...
. Which initial concept do you think has the most potential, should I further develop more than one?
. Is the identity / sport team idea too cheesy?
The feedback I got for the first question was that the concept of Nike ID, creating custom board graphics was the best idea. However it would take away a large element of design within the brief. I don't necessarily see this as too much of a problem as there are ways around it, but the design essentially will be up to the audience. Another issue that was raised concerned something that I saw one of the problems being, the initial connotations of Nike as a brand, when venturing into new sports such as board specific ones. This is evident when Nike first branched out into skateboarding, there was somewhat of a backlash within the skating scene, with the general opinion being that Nike was a bad, corporate business that will ruin skateboarding. This consensus, with time changed and now Nike is a big brand within skateboarding. Recently Nike have branched into snowboarding, this time to no real backlash. This shows a transformation of the brand or rather more of an acceptance. So is this is a problem still? As the issue raised was that it felt very corporate, So now im terribly torn and confused as to where to take this brief.
I need to go away and reassess the brief, find out the problems with it, and from there the solutions to the problem.
