Green -Bottle of Champagne
Working on this in the studio, one of the guys came up and mentioned he liked the texture of the photo pattern, I showed him the whole thing and the designs I had so far. I then asked if he could figure out my thinking of rather the concept behind my design.
He thought it was simply a take on the trophy being in snow, the mositure of it and what not. I explained the original concept, he then suggested why not make the colour of it green, representing a typical champagne bottle. Seemed like a beautiful idea...
Tried it without the type but it still doesn't push the champagne idea any further.
Sack it off? I think so.

Applied this to the trophy, along with the type. It looks so army like. Not good.

Watch!
Forgot the watch design. Silly old me.
Same design, photography for the pattern, season type displayed as a point of focus other than the clock face. Makes a strong set.

Champagne poppin' w/ Type
Mixing the developed concepts together, 'Champagne Poppin' and the Season Type.
Getting rid of the 3d effect on the type, leaving depth to be created within the pattern design. (3D being too much when put together).
Big fan of the aesthetics of the design however it doesn't tell the story of the original concept, which is the champagne being sprayed on the trophy (Interaction with trophy). Saying that it kind if works in terms of melted snow. I'm happy to stick with it, lets put it that way.

Champagne Poppin'
Full design, rough mish mash of photos to cover the whole trophy, but it represents the idea well enough.
Still has the problem of not being clear of what I'm trying to portray.
Maybe mix this with the champagne label idea. Having a label design on the base of it.
Champagne Poppin'
Mock up using the photos, think it looks alright, issue with it not being clear why it's like that though. Not really able to tell it's champagne unless I told you.
Champagne Poppin'
Took some photos to use as the design for the trophy.
Tried to capture the effect of liquid (champagne) splashed onto the trophy if the trophy was painted black.
Some work better than others, some I can't really use because it has captured an image in the reflection of the water. Definitely some here that I can use though.

Development
For the final design of this concept I want to find the middle ground between these two styles. The busy pattern design on top, with the falling / installation feel to the latter. Remembering what the thing will look like when printed onto the trophy.
Season Type
Another variant of the type design.
Problem with it being the focus lies on the two *'s instead of the 11/12. But It will look different when wrapped around I guess.
Season Type
Pattern design with the type. Do like it however think it looks a bit like christmas wrapping paper, not really what I was going for.
Season Type
First proper mock up of season type design.
In my opinion the trophy looks really strong all white, this being the reason for the lack of colour, also giving more emphasis on the red type. Red being used to fit in with the visual identity of Swatch.
I might try a much busier design, layering up the text, but I don't want to do something that is derivative of snowboarding / skateboarding, relying on street art to feed the design.
Season Type
Applying the type design to the net plan of the base of the trophy.
Seeing how it fits in it, testing what it looks like on black.
An important factor is that this will obviously be bent and wrapped round the trophy essentially, is it a problem if the type bends round the base?

Season Type
Developing the type further, always been a fan of installation art, 3d type. Not really got the time available to make this into a real 3d product, but making it 3d on software looks pretty sweet still.
Adding the thin lines as to make it seem its hanging in mid air.
Season Type
Going forward with the 3rd concept, type resolution focusing on the season, 11/12.
Developing the type design, aiming for something quite fun, bold but not tacky like.
Not quite sure how it's going to fit on the trophy, what else can it be?

Concept
Third concept I've come up with a way of having a simple type based design, focusing on the specific season the trophy is for, 2011 / 2012.

Champagne Poppin'
Having some concerns with this idea of champagne splashed over the trophy.
Firstly to get the design to clearly look like liquid droplets is really hard, the best way to get the ideal effect would be to photograph something of a similar material to glass, photographing it with water splashed on it, to try and get the finished look of the latter image.
Even if I get the latter image down, the connotations of the image will mostly be water and not champagne.
The other problem is something I've found with the top image. Remove the champagne bottle, and the explosion looks a bit risqué. Not what I'm after.
I will try and photograph something white / black to get the desired effect however I think i may have to change the concept a little bit.
An alternative would be to have the trophy as a kind of champagne bottle itself, the base being a champagne label...
Making the label look a bit fancy like the one above.
Flippent Idea
Was looking at the trophy, realised that the board had no bindings on so, this came about.
Not a great idea but bit funny I think.

Concept
Carrying on with the idea of interaction, this time looking at how people generally celebrate when winning trophies and that. Not just specifically snowboarding.
2. The design for this would be some form of instructions on how to celebrate.
for example,
. Grab trophy in one hand
. raise high above your head
. Smile, why not scream with excitement.
. With your other hand, hold snowboard and raise as high as you can.
. You are now celebrating
Concepts
From finding last years winner, I want to create something that plays with the idea of interaction, specifically how the trophy is used and handled.
1. Champagne Poppin'
Something that is done at all winners' events, shaking and spraying the champagne.
So the design would be the plain trophy with some form of droplets of liquid illustrated onto it. Representing the popped champagne being spilt all over it.
Slight issue of trying to visualise this though.

Past Entries
Searched online for previous entries or winners, found these designs below. Pretty shit like. Specially the jelly beans. Literally has no connection to anything, full of Beans? Eh?
This was last years winner. Just on an aesthetic point of view, I wasn't too keen but the concept behind it is really quite clever. The lips representing the winner kissing the trophy, a general take on interaction that occurs with a winner and his trophy. Well done.
And above showing the real life trophy.
