Urban Nerds

The London equivalent to Bigger Than Barry. More sick flyers and overall a well designed visual identity....

Skull Candy

More headphones, more action sports!

Strong, identifiable logo. Alongside a body of well designed, considered visuals. All in all a good looking brand, Some may argue thats all there good for, looking good, but who am I to judge!

Its interesting to see the difference from Wesc, Urban Ears and Skull Candy, as they all have a very similar target audience yet look equally different. All very fashion and trend conscious.

MTV - WTF

Short but really interesting bit of branding from MTV. For the release of the new Jersey Shore, created a special night of tv called, WTF.

Quality, a spin, quite literally, on the existing logo, yet creating something that is completely different yet instantly recognisable as MTV.

Global Gathering

Just had a fresh re-brand for this years festival, Looks alright i think! I've yet to fully make up my mind. I reckon they've made themselves look like creamfields, which is a shame because I think Global is a much better festival!

The colour squares I feel is a bit of a rip off from last years Creamfields festival where they had colour triangles for their visual identity.
Works though, in terms of attracting a young yet diverse audience.

Bigger than Barry

Coming straight out of my two cities, Birmingham & Leeds, club night Bigger than Barry. Good visual example of a big youth scene, genres of music that have of late grown dramatically in popularity, dub-step and all that hype.
I think they have a very strong visual identity as a brand, their flyers being pretty sick if not a bit mental...

S'all bright and lovely! Really appeals to me, specifically the use of bold bright type, just my bag. Unfortunately I think flyers, the majority of them are visual garbage and they are very much throw away pieces of design. However with flyers like these, they look quality and I just feel they are over looked as credible pieces of design.

Yes Snowboards

Another favorite boarding brand of mine, couldn't find a point of contact, there a bit anti-establishment. Fuck da system and all that jazz. Still look amazing though, branding is so simple yet effective. YES.
Want more boards to look like this...

Vice Magazine

Something that I feel is a good example of modern youth culture, for all the 'cool' kids like! Not entirely my taste but its a bit of a cult favorite I suppose...

Charge

Heard back from the Bike specialists, Charge....

Hi Mitch,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

We are flat out at the moment, hence the delay. We don't really do printed promo material/ catalogues. You will see our bikes in places where you wouldn't normally see bikes. Sunday rags, lifestyle mags etc. At the moment we have some in the Conran Shop in Chelsea for example.
We are also discreet with promo instore, our bikes talk the quietest if you understand me. Ours normally get chosen over the 'look at me' bikes.
Nick is the soul behind all the visuals, branding and direction.
It is very hard to pass over a portfolio of Charge and will take some time. A good basis to start from would be the Eurobike stands.

When I have a minute we will see what we can send. We do have some of this info but it is part of the 2012 range catalogue which is top secret at the moment.

I will mail soon,

Really happy that they got in touch and are willing to help me out, they are a really interesting company I think, with a sick example of branding, Not too sure what I'll get from them, whether they'll send a catalog Im not sure. I will try and get a hi-res logo image and some hi-def photos of their bikes atleast!

Westbeach

Another boarding brand, this time specialising in clothing, jackets and the like!

Wesc

Just the logo design for now. Strong and unique, for me its instantly recognizable.
Their headphones are highly attractive also, other than that i could include t-shirt designs, any ads I can find or get from them! But yet to hear back from them.

Von Zipper

Cheeky little board culture inspired brand, Von Zipper, make some nice sunglasses and even nicer goggles...

Quick peek into their identity...

Not as good as I thought it was in my head, my memory deceives me once again! not too sure on the circular border on logo. But wee-man = win.

Special Blend

Another boarding brand I love, Special Blend. Quality products, that look even better.

Another strong logo design, this then exploited through the products and clothing.
This is just imagery from the website, not specifically something I'm looking to include in the book, but it gives a good idea to the visual identity of the brands I want to include within the book.
